ROSES
BLOOM
AT
BORDE HILL GARDEN
All Summer

Press Release 2010
Borde Hill has
burst into fragrant bloom as its famous Jay Robin’s Rose Garden in
its full glory this Summer. Celebrating its 45th anniversary this
year as a charity open to the public, Borde Hill has enhanced its
rose collection with new ‘Gold Standard’ rose beds in collaboration
with the British Association of Rose Breeders (BARB), creating a
glorious display of the best-loved of all garden flowers.
With colours ranging from soft pinks to deep crimson, intermingled with the heady fragrances of old English roses, the Rose Garden boasts a lavish display of some 100 varieties of David Austin roses. In addition, Borde Hill Garden is delighted to have created new rose beds, with 118 plants of 36 varieties, featuring modern rose cultivars awarded ‘Gold Standard’ status as a result of BARB’s independent testing during two year trials.
The Rose Garden comprises a number of formal beds bordered by box hedges amid softly curving paths and walks. Reflecting the original style of the 1902 plantings are poles decked with climbing roses leading to an archway into the Mediterranean Garden and beyond. Delphinium, peonies and phlox are also used to great visual effect complementing the star turn, the roses.
Borde Hill Garden is open 22 March - 12 Sept & 23 - 31 Oct, daily 10am-6pm. House tours can be arranged for group bookings. Season tickets are also available for all garden lovers. In addition to the Garden, Borde Hill hosts a variety of events throughout the year.
