Sculpture Exhibition 2019 – a 20th Anniversary Celebration of Art

Towering kinetic wind art and mythological figures are transforming the historic garden into a stunning outdoor gallery for a special 20th anniversary exhibition.

Opened on 9th May by award-winning designer and TV gardener, Juliet Sargeant, the carefully selected sculptures are placed throughout the 17-acre formal Garden, working in harmony with the renowned horticultural collection that has put Borde Hill on the map. Including over 100 pieces, the diverse display of figurative and abstract works highlight fresh new talent, with some familiar names returning to be part of this special celebration of art.

Will Carr’s kinetic wind sculpture ‘Transfiguration’ captivates viewers as it twists and turns in the breeze in front of the Elizabethan Mansion. Wandering further into the garden ‘rooms’, visitors encounter ‘Icarus I’ by Nicola Godden, a striking winged figure commissioned for the London 2012 Olympic Village. The mythological theme continues with ‘Narcissus’ by Teresa Wells, a figurative bronze inspired by the boy who fell in love with his own reflection.

Exploring the Garden’s hidden spaces, visitors will stumble across exquisite stone carvings, alongside works in resin, glass and ceramic.

Smaller pieces are exhibited inside the Glasshouse and Green Tree Gallery, encouraging visitors to explore every nook and cranny of the historic garden and grounds. All works are on sale, with something to suit every taste and pocket.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Open Air Opera: La Traviata

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present La Traviata by Verdi, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Description
From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heart breaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas.

Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing.

Christopher Lane  production for Opera Brava will bring out all the emotional colour, from the first discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

The performance will be sung in English.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”5px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”10436″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”10437″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Book Now” color=”primary” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.myonlinebooking.co.uk%2Fbordehill%2Fbuy.aspx%3Ftid%3D51||target:%20_blank|”][vc_column_text]Booking essential

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Description
Written in three weeks, Rossini’s masterpiece is one of the wittiest and most immediately appealing comic operas in the repertoire today and is as fresh to the ear now as when it first burst upon it’s Italian audiences in 1816. On first hearing, the utter joy of one melodic masterpiece flowing into the next is thrilling to any audience.  As the plot unfolds and is dramatically told through Rossini’s brilliant musical structure, it helps us to understand, in part, the Barber’s special place in the history of opera.

Opera Brava in its 31st year is Britains leading touring opera company. Their production of “The Barber of Seville” is performed by professional and experienced national and international opera singers who have worked with major companies such as; English National Opera and Covent Garden. • Thank you all for a lovely opera of The Barber of Seville yesterday at Hever Castle, the talent displayed was awesome.
  • “I took my 13-year old to see the Barber of Seville at Leatherhead. She’s been clutching the programme ever since, and telling everyone about it. From the minute the music struck up, she started grinning and never stopped until we left. Then she said she’d like to go again!” – Guest feedback.
