Open Air Opera: The Barber of Seville

Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Written in three weeks, Rossini’s masterpiece is one of the wittiest and most immediately appealing comic operas in the repertoire today and is as fresh to the ear now as when it first burst upon it’s Italian audiences in 1816. On first hearing, the utter joy of one melodic masterpiece flowing into the next is thrilling to any audience.  As the plot unfolds and is dramatically told through Rossini’s brilliant musical structure, it helps us to understand, in part, the Barber’s special place in the history of opera.

Opera Brava in its 31st year is Britains leading touring opera company. Their production of “The Barber of Seville” is performed by professional and experienced national and international opera singers who have worked with major companies such as; English National Opera and Covent Garden. The performance will be sung in English.

What people are saying:

  • Thank you all for a lovely opera of The Barber of Seville yesterday at Hever Castle, the talent displayed was awesome.
  • “I took my 13-year old to see the Barber of Seville at Leatherhead. She’s been clutching the programme ever since, and telling everyone about it. From the minute the music struck up, she started grinning and never stopped until we left. Then she said she’d like to go again!” – Guest feedback.
