Spooky family fun at Borde Hill Garden this Halloween
23rd October to 3rd November 2013
Come to our enchanted Garden this Halloween where young visitors will be kept on their toes throughout the autumn half term.
The Borde Hill Garden Halloween Event will be every day from October 23rd to November 3rd; fearless explorers of all ages can take part in the Dragon and Pumpkin Trails and visit the witch in her House full of treats. Courageous children who survive meeting the witch can then enter the Ghost Tent and become a dragon, vampire, skeleton or witch with spooky face paints and get arty and make some fun and freaky craft pieces to take home for the family. Storytelling and wand-making will also be a feature this year, join in with the spooky story which leads you around the Garden with your very own handmade wand.
Visit and explore the Garden in the dark with our late-night opening on Wednesday 30th October (until 7pm). We will be hosting a Pumpkin Carving Competition, bring along your pumpkin and carving tools and show off your creative skills! Food and refreshments will be available as well as other activities in our Ghost Tent.
Bat Encounter Sessions with Sussex Bat Group, in connection with the RHS Wild About Gardens Week. Come and meet Sussex Bat Group for an interesting and informative talk on bats, suitable for all ages. Get up close and personal with three different species of bat; this is a talk where you can see the bats first hand and really get a sense of these unique and fascinating creatures.
Sunday 27th October and Wednesday 30th October 2013
There will be talks on both days at 2:30pm and again at 3:30pm. Each talk will last between 20-30 minutes. Spaces are limited as we want everyone to be able to see and hear and interact with the bats.
Borde Hill’s fun Adventure Playground will be open for children of all ages, including balance beams and a challenging zip-line for older children, plus a safe area for toddlers.
Visitors can also enjoy the autumn splendour that extends into panoramic views across the lakes and 200 acres of rolling parkland. From the Azalea Ring and Italian Garden, to the sub-tropical Round Dell, there is plenty of autumnal delights including fuchsias, dalhias, grasses and hydrageas to keep people of all ages enthralled.
