Form in Nature – Sculpture Exhibition
May 7 – Sep 30 all-day

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Form in Nature – Sculpture Exhibition 2021

See the historic garden transformed into a stunning outdoor gallery with a carefully curated exhibition of figurative and abstract work.

Opening on 7th May, the sculptures will be strategically placed throughout the 17-acre formal Garden, working in harmony with the renowned horticultural collection that has put Borde Hill on the map. Including over 80 pieces, the diverse display of contemporary sculpture will highlight fresh new talent, with some familiar names returning to be part of this celebration of art.

Will Carr’s kinetic wind sculpture ‘Fluidity’ will captivate viewers as it twists and turns in the breeze in front of the Elizabethan Mansion. Wandering further into the garden ‘rooms’, visitors will encounter ‘Greer, Guardian Angel, a striking figure by artist sculptor Ed Elliott, a work which was awarded ‘Sculpture of the Year 2020’ at the Cotswold Sculpture Park.

Exploring the Garden’s hidden spaces, visitors will stumble across exquisite stone carvings, alongside works in resin, metal and glass. Many pieces draw inspiration from the natural world, including ‘Sycamore Spin’ by Zoe Singleton, ‘Ammonite’ by Nicola Axe and ‘Falling Water’ by Richard Cresswell.

Smaller pieces will be exhibited inside the Glasshouse and Green Tree Gallery, encouraging visitors to explore every nook and cranny of the historic garden and grounds. All works will be on sale, with something to suit every taste and pocket.

The exhibition, kindly sponsored by 1st CENTRAL, will run daily from 7th May – 30th September 2021 with admission included in the standard entry price.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

‘A Wild Escape’ – wellbeing day for adults focused on connecting with nature

In this 5 hour workshop you will immerse yourself in Borde Hill’s beautiful Warren Wood, using your senses to connect with nature and experience the health and wellbeing benefits that woodland can provide.

Spend some time forest bathing in a tree hammock, build a woodland shelter to sit and drink a cup of nettle tea made in a storm kettle. Learn how to light a fire using natural materials and cook a wild lunch. Experience nature through your senses and express yourself through art or poetry exercises.

The outdoors offers unique sensory experiences for the chance to regain balance and escape from the pressures of everyday life. Woodlands are natural havens to escape and provide restorative environments, with sounds, sights and smells stimulating all the senses. Now the traditional rose border has evolved to include companion planting with other flowering shrubs and flowers to extend the season of interest. But how do you also ensure the practical considerations for maintaining the roses?

In this illustrated talk and workshop, Juliet will explain how to choose the most reliable roses and combine them with suitable under-planting, to create borders that perform for months, with the classic romance of roses.

Subjects covered:
Different types of rose plants – choosing, buying and planting roses – perfect companion plants for a romantic rose border – the practicalities of maintaining a rose border

Who is the course for?

This course for anyone who loves roses, but would like to extend their season of interest with romantic companion planting

By the end of the day you will:

  • understand how to combine rose plants for a beautiful effect
  • understand how to extend the season of interest of your rose borders
  • know a good range of herbaceous plants to combine with and underplant your rose border
  • Be inspired by Borde Hill’s beautiful rose garden and learn to re-create its magic in your own home.

Children's Outdoor Theatre: Mr Stink

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]David Walliams’ best-seller Mr Stink is coming to Borde Hill Garden with an open air theatre production staged by Heartbreak Productions.

You’re invited to celebrate Annabelle’s 10th birthday, hosted by everyone’s favourite MP candidate, Janet Crumb! (Almost) everyone is welcome… that is, everyone apart from Chloe’s particularly smelly new friend, Mr Stink.

One perfectly normal afternoon in an average English town two restless souls unite on a park bench – one of them the lonely 12 year old Chloe Crumb and the other an incredibly smelly homeless man. Oh, and let’s not forget his loyal dog, the Duchess. Chloe’s curiosity and kindness pave the way for this extraordinary and rewarding friendship that takes them to the heady heights of live television and Downing Street via a garden shed.

Pack a picnic, grab a chair and dress for the weather. Packed with fun, humour and a heart-warming message, this touching tale provides the perfect family entertainment.

Performed on the South Lawn against the backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House, Heartbreak Productions’ version of this popular children’s book is suitable for children aged 7+.

‘A Wild Escape’ – Wellbeing Day
Oct 2 @ 9:30 am – 3:00 pm

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

A real restorative experience!

The outdoors offers unique sensory experiences for the chance to regain balance and escape from the pressures of everyday life. Woodlands are natural havens to escape and provide restorative environments, with sounds, sights and smells stimulating all the senses. Research has shown that people are more relaxed in outdoor environments.

Bushcraft encompasses a range of skills based on primitive ways of living which can help us to harness the benefits of nature and allows us to live with and become attuned to the natural world.
