Hop along to Borde Hill Garden for Bertram Bunny’s Easter Adventure

Spot the signs of spring whilst exploring the Garden on the daily Easter trail.  Hetty the Hen has surprisingly laid ten golden eggs, which Bertram Bunny has hidden from Felix the Fox before he eats them for his supper.  Find the golden eggs and solve some puzzles along the way to receive a delicious chocolate treat.

During the trail, challenge the family to a game of crazy golf, or an egg and spoon race on the lawn. Children can also let off steam in the new Adventure Playground, navigating their way through a series of exciting new equipment, including a thrilling zip wire for the most adventurous. It’s all the inspiration you need for a cracking day out!

There will be daily crafts for children to create an Easter-themed masterpiece to take home, with a small additional charge of £1 to cover the cost of materials.  Why not visit the Easter photo booth for a selfie with family and friends, perhaps showcasing some of the crafts you have made.  Enter our #bordehilleaster photo competition to win a family membership.

Fuel up for your adventures with a delicious Easter-themed treat from the Gardeners’ Retreat Café, or cool down with an ice-cream or drink from the new playground Coffee Cabin.

Spring is also a magical time to explore the Garden and Woodland, with an abundance of flowering magnolias, camellias, hellebores, daffodils and rhododendrons. Picnics and dogs on leads welcome.

Sculpture Exhibition 2019 – A 20th Anniversary Celebration
May 10 – Sep 30 all-day

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Sculpture Exhibition 2019 – a 20th Anniversary Celebration of Art

Towering kinetic wind art and mythological figures will transform the historic garden into a stunning outdoor gallery for a special 20th anniversary exhibition.

The carefully selected sculptures will be placed throughout the 17-acre formal Garden, working in harmony with the renowned horticultural collection that has put Borde Hill on the map. Including over 80 pieces, the diverse display of figurative and abstract works will highlight fresh new talent, with some familiar names returning to be part of this special celebration of art.

Will Carr’s kinetic wind sculpture ‘Transfiguration’ will captivate viewers as it twists and turns in the breeze in front of the Elizabethan Mansion. Wandering further into the garden ‘rooms’, visitors will encounter ‘Icarus I’ by Nicola Godden, a striking winged figure commissioned for the London 2012 Olympic Village. The mythological theme continues with ‘Narcissus’ by Teresa Wells, a figurative bronze inspired by the boy who fell in love with his own reflection.

Exploring the Garden’s hidden spaces, visitors will stumble across exquisite stone carvings, alongside works in resin, glass and ceramic.

Smaller pieces will be exhibited inside the Glasshouse and Green Tree Gallery, encouraging visitors to explore every nook and cranny of the historic garden and grounds. All works will be on sale, with something to suit every taste and pocket.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Open Air Opera: La Traviata

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava, present La Traviata by Verdi, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Description
From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heart breaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas.

Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing.

Christopher Lane  production for Opera Brava will bring out all the emotional colour, from the first discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

The performance will be sung in English.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”5px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”10436″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”10437″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Book Now” color=”primary” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.myonlinebooking.co.uk%2Fbordehill%2Fbuy.aspx%3Ftid%3D51||target:%20_blank|”][vc_column_text]Booking essential

  • Thank you all for a lovely opera of The Barber of Seville yesterday at Hever Castle, the talent displayed was awesome.
  • “I took my 13-year old to see the Barber of Seville at Leatherhead. She’s been clutching the programme ever since, and telling everyone about it. From the minute the music struck up, she started grinning and never stopped until we left. Then she said she’d like to go again!” – Guest feedback.
  • If you haven’t seen this production yet then ITS A MUST
