Delicious fare in fabulous surroundings

The Gardeners’ Retreat Café

Open daily from 10am

The Gardeners’ Retreat Café is inside the Garden so you will need to buy a day admission ticket to visit – or if you’re a Member, simply show your card at reception.

The café is located in the old Peacock House, set in the beautiful surroundings between the Rose Garden and the Mid Summer Border. It’s the perfect spot to sit and relax with a barista coffee, light lunch or a delicious cup of tea.

Choose from an enticing selection of freshly made sandwiches and savoury delights, as well as a delicious array of cakes and bakes.

Our café does not have indoor seating but there are plenty of tables with umbrellas where you can sit, relax and while away time.

Card payments only please.

We’re fully licenced and welcome dogs on leads.

Gardeners’ Retreat Café

Ginkgo Coffee Shop

NEW for 2024 – open daily from 10am to 5pm, with last orders at 4pm.

Nestled inside the Garden’s visitor entrance building, discover the cozy Ginkgo Coffee Shop, serving barista coffee, specialist teas, and a selection of delicious cakes and bakes.

The coffee shop’s name pays homage to Borde Hill’s rich botanical heritage and celebrates the magnificent Ginkgo biloba tree that stands tall along our main drive. Known as living fossil, it’s one of the oldest living tree species in the world, and is a breathtaking sight in autumn with a striking display of golden fan-shaped leaves.

Garden admission is not required to visit the Ginkgo Coffee Shop.

We kindly ask for card payments only and warmly welcome dogs on short leads.

Ginkgo Coffee Shop is available for out of hours private hire. Contact us at [email protected] to make an enquiry.

Picnic in the Garden or Parkland

Garden visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic, or to buy take-away food and drink from our Ginkgo Coffee Shop and Gardeners’ Retreat Café.

Bring a blanket and picnic beside Robertsmere and Harry’s lakes in South Park – a tranquil spot to while away an afternoon.

The Stables

After 25 successful years, Jeremy and Vera Ashpool retired from Café Elvira and Jeremy’s Restaurant in March 2022. Their passion and culinary flair have been celebrated with numerous awards over the years, and created a dedicated following of customers. We are very grateful for their energy and tenure at Borde Hill, and wish them all the best in their retirement.

The Stables will remain closed throughout 2024, with future plans including a new field to fork restaurant.
