Specialist Plant Fair

The Plant Fairs Roadshow  – a wide range of locally grown, garden worthy and unusual plants to inspire keen gardeners.

The Plant Fairs Roadshow is a collective of specialist nurseries who will be setting up their stalls on the South Lawn in front of the Elizabethan Mansion House to provide a mouth-watering range of interesting, rare and unusual plants for plant hungry gardeners. This is a great opportunity to buy direct from the growers and to get free advice from the resident ‘Plant Doctor’, who will be on hand to diagnose plant problems and issue advise. FREE Garden tours at 11.30 and 1.30, included in admission and bookable on the day.

‘Keeping Pests at Bay the Natural Way’ – Talk with Pippa Greenwood

Visitors to the Specialist Plant Fair also have the opportunity to pre-book a ticket to hear Pippa Greenwood’s tips on how to deal with common garden pests without the need for chemicals eg copper matting and tapes, biological controls, pop-ups and fleece, resistant varieties. Pippa frequently appears on BBC Gardeners’ World and has been a regular panelist on Gardeners’ Question Time on BBC Radio 4 since 1994. Additional charge applies for the talk. Pre-booking required. Plant Fair stallholders include:

Beechbridge Plants – small nursery that propagates and grows a wide selection of predominately hardy herbaceous perennials on site.

Blackstem Plants – a personal selection of perennial plants, some weird but all wonderful, and provide something extra for wildlife.

Charleshurst Farm Nursery – shrubs and small trees includes many rarely offered, specialities include a good range of Daphnes and Acer palmatum.

Daisy Roots – an RHS gold medal winner at both Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court her excellent range of perennials is aimed at those with dryish conditions.

Forget Me Not Plants -unusual and cottage garden perennials, wild flowers, grasses, annuals/biennuals, and potted bulbs, grown in their back garden nursery near Horsham.

Hardy’s – well known at the RHS Shows with a multitude of gold medals with over 22 at Chelsea Flower Show alone, offers a great range of herbaceous perennials.

Little Omenden – hardy perennials, wildlife friendly, grown in peat free compost and no pesticides.

Miles Japanese Maples – a small nursey specialising in Japanese Maples, which are propagated by seed and by grafting, these are forms of Acer palmatum, Acer japonicum and Acer shirasawanum.

Pelham Plants – a broad range of choice hardy herbaceous including late season perennial plants and grasses that combine with them.

Phoenix Plants – columnist, lecturer and grower of hardy perennials, many prairie plants, umbellifers and chalk lovers, suitable for a wide range of pollinating insects, plus unusual annuals and bulbs.

Pineview Plants – an RHS medal winning nursery with an extensive and ever changing range of perennial plants from rare, new or unusual, to easy, interesting and reliable, plus an huge choice of shade-lovers, including many Epimediums.

Plantbase – a regular exhibitor at RHS shows including Chelsea and Hampton Court he describes his range as ‘weird things that most people don’t buy and exotics from round the world.

Southon Plants – a very large range of new and unusual perennials both hardy and tender.

Sussex Fruit Trees – wide range of fruit and nut trees, trained fruit trees and local Sussex varieties, also provides orchard design, maintenance and planning services.

Usual & Unusual Plants – perennials – shrubs – interesting (some rare) and garden worthy varieties, plus advice given on how to grow the choices soil/situation etc
