Open Air Opera: The Barber of Seville
Jul 23 @ 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_single_image image=”13801″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Britain’s leading outdoor touring company, Opera Brava [34], present The Barber of Seville by Rossini, performed with a chamber ensemble against the magical backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House.

Description
Written in three weeks, Rossini’s masterpiece is one of the wittiest and most immediately appealing comic operas in the repertoire today and as fresh to the ear now as when it first burst upon it’s Italian audiences in 1816. On first hearing, the utter joy of one melodic masterpiece flowing into the next is thrilling to any audience. As the plot unfolds and is dramatically told through Rossini’s brilliant musical structure, it helps us to understand Barber’s special place in the history of opera.

Opera Brava’s new production brings together both national and international artists in an exciting and innovative period production, which will keep you enthralled and amused throughout the evening.  World class singing and tunes that you will go away humming.

Children’s Outdoor Theatre: Awful Auntie
Aug 12 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]Awful Auntie by the UK’s most loved children’s writer, David Walliams, comes to Borde Hill Garden this summer with a thrilling open air theatre show staged by Heartbreak Productions.

The play tells the story of Stella Saxby, who is tormented by her awful Aunt Alberta and her giant owl. The dastardly duo will stop at nothing to take her inheritance from her.

Description:
The new playground at the Saxby Hall Orphanage is finally complete, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. The orphanage was founded by Stella Saxby, who some of you may remember. Her parents were killed in a car crash in 1933, leaving her an orphan, all alone with her Awful Auntie. And when we say awful, we mean awful. Aunt Alberta and her best friend Wagner, a vicious Bavarian owl, tried everything they could to torment Stella into signing over the deed to Saxby Hall. But Stella, with the help of her friend Soot (the ghost of a chimney sweep, but friends come in all shapes and sizes, don’t they?) fought off Aunt Alberta, saved Saxby Hall, and gifted the beautiful Saxby Hall to be used as an orphanage.

Awful Auntie is a truly thrilling tale. Owls, ghosts, chases, escapes, motorcycle rides, and tiddlywinks all fill Stella’s days as she evades her menacing Aunt and saves the family home. So, please join us at the dedication of the new playground at Saxby Hall and hear how it all came about.

Make sure you bring a blanket or chair to sit on, weather-appropriate gear, and a picnic, as the tale could take some time to tell, and storytelling can be hungry work!

Performed on the South Lawn against the backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House, Heartbreak Productions’ version of this popular children’s book is suitable for children aged 7+.

Refreshments will be available throughout the performance.

As the season begins to turn and change pace, so do we. As the leaves turn on the trees nature reminds us of the beauty found in letting go. This practise will take place in the tranquillity of the Italian Garden after hours, and will offer an opportunity to drop in to yourself, with explorative movement encouraging a release of old patterns to make space for the endless potential we all hold.

We will close with a long, deep meditative rest to release and integrate, ready to come together to enjoy a freshly prepared mocktail and healthy snack, where guests can get guidance and inspiration from Calli.

Calli is a Senior Yoga Teacher, who teaches a fluid, playful and embodied yoga style,  focusing on bringing you home to yourself on every layer. She is passionate about yoga being accessible for everybody and believes that no one alignment fits all, encouraging students to enquire and move from a place of playful exploration.

Prior experience is not required; beginners welcome. Yoga mats will be provided. Please bring water for the session.

Enjoy the spirit of Christmas at Borde Hill on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th November

This November escape the rush of the high street and indulge in a spot of festive shopping at the Borde Hill Christmas Market, taking place at The Stables, the Garden Gift Shop and Marquee and Green Tree Gallery.

The hand-selected stalls will showcase local products, from delicious food and drink to tempt your taste buds, to unique crafts and gifts for all the family.

The Stables will offer visitors a varied selection of over 30 stalls selling locally produced food and drink celebrating the best of Sussex and the South East in both indoor and marquee spaces.  Food trucks will be located at the heart of the event between The Stables and the Garden, offering delicious food to fill empty tummies and warm cold hands.

Once visitors have stocked up on a plethora of festive food and drinks, and been revived by a tasty snack, the Green Tree Gallery and Borde Hill Garden, who are located just a few steps from The Stables, will be offering beautiful gifts for loved ones or a personal treat.  Again, a varied selection of locally produced gifts will offer inspiration for even the hardest to please friend or relative!

The Garden will be open, weather permitting, and during your winter stroll you might like to buy a hot drink at The Gardeners’ Retreat Café.  Why not ponder on purchasing annual Membership to Borde Hill Garden and enjoy a special offer of 15 months membership for the price of 12 months.  The perfect gift that lasts all year.
