A Summer of Family Fun

This summer, plan a day out for the whole family at Borde Hill.

For the first time we’re holding Funday Friday family activities in the Parkland, as well as daily trails to spark your children’s imagination. Children aged 3-8 years can explore the Woods of Wonder trail in the Garden, while older children aged 9-12 years can race around the Parkland on a Dino Detectives trail. Families can also visit the Adventure Playground which is located in the Garden and included in admission.

The Woods of Wonder Garden Trail

Saturday 17 July to Saturday 11 September, 10am-5pm daily

This summer, children aged 3 to 8 years can join Warren the Flower Fairy on a magical adventure in Warren Wood. Get ready to travel to imaginary lands and meet otherworldly creatures… discover that the trees can hear, flowers can talk and strange hidden beings watch your every move. Nothing is what is seems!

Explore each mystical land, filling in the activities in the ‘Woods of Wonder’ story book. Once all the chapters have been completed, return to the ‘real’ world and collect a reward.

Recommended age: 3-8 years

Price: £3.00 per trail to include a prize, plus admission (FREE to Members). Advance booking required.

The Woods of Wonder Trail takes place in Warren Wood and is suitable for children aged 3-8 years. The Dino Detective Trail takes place in the Parkland and is suitable for older children aged 9-12 years.

Dino Detectives… Crack the Code Parkland Trail

Saturday 17 July to Saturday 11 September, 10am-5pm daily

Do you have what it takes to become a junior paleontologist on our Dino Detective Trail in the Parkland?

Children aged 9 to 12 years can race around the lakes in the stunning Borde Hill Parkland cracking beastly difficult codes as they go. On the route, discover some fascinating dinosaur facts to win a prize. Those who crack the codes and complete the trail in the quickest time will be added to our ‘top ten times’ leader board’.  What are you waiting for? Get set, go….

Recommended age: 9-12 years

Break out the hats and the sun cream and join in with our Funday Friday activities in the Parkland.  We’ve got lots of exciting new events for the whole family, so join us for some fun-filled adventures in a beautiful Parkland setting:

Rafts & Crafts

Friday 30 July

1 hour pre-bookable sessions at 10.45am, 12noon, 2pm and 3.15pm

During this one-hour session held in the beautiful Borde Hill Parkland, children can build a miniature raft using twigs and leaves before letting it set sail. Will yours successfully float away? The ticket price includes a hot dog cooked over a campfire.

Price: £5.00 per child (including Members), plus admission. Advance booking required.

Catering: ticket price includes a hot dog made from a Bangers Galore sausage cooked over a campfire. Please advise of any dietary requirements by emailing bookings@bordehill.co.uk including your booking reference number.

Circus Skills

Friday 6 August

30 minute pre-bookable sessions at 11am, 11.45am, 12.30pm, 13.15pm, 2pm and 2.45pm

Roll up! Roll up! Come and try your hand at circus skills in these family-friendly 30-minute sessions in the Parkland.

Have a go under the supervision of a circus skills instructor at diabolo, juggling, poi spinning, hooping, plate spinning and tightrope walking. Includes a mini demo by the instructor for you to get to grips with the equipment and then the rest of the session to work on practising your circus skills!

Woodland Stories & Craft Adventure

Friday 13 August

1 hour pre-bookable sessions at 11.00am, 12.15pm, 1.45pm and 3pm

Join Lucy from Limepalm Drama Clubs for an hour of wonderful Woodland Storytelling. Inspired by the books of Jeanne Willis (The King of Tiny Things and Bog Baby), your children will enjoy animated storytelling, games and activities, finishing with a craft activity. Open to children aged 3+. Dressing up always encouraged!

Limepalm Drama Clubs deliver fun, creative drama sessions for young people, aiming to help children build self-confidence, communication skills and meet other children in a safe, yet informal environment.

Magic in the Parkland

Friday 20 August

45 minute pre-bookable sessions at 11am, 12noon, 1.30pm and 2.30pm

Join us for this fun, interactive family magic show in the Parkland! Perfect for ages 3-8 years old. We’ll need your help to make the magic work, so come prepared with your magic words as there’ll be lots of opportunities for audience participation!

A mixture of comedy and magic, with a sprinkle of silliness thrown in. Fun for the whole family!

Bubblemania

Friday 27 August

30 minute pre-bookable sessions at 11.00am, 11.45am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 2.45pm and 3.30pm

Bubbles, bubbles everywhere! Big ones, small ones, long ones, square ones. Don’t believe us? Then come and see for yourselves! These family-friendly bubble sessions contain a mini bubble show, where you’ll learn some tips and tricks about the art of bubbleology, followed by a freeplay session where you can have a go at making your own bubbles of all different sizes.

Price: £5.00 per child (including Members), plus admission. Advance booking required.

Good to know

  • Toilets and baby-changing facilities are located at our Visitor Reception and near to the Long Dell in the Garden. There are no toilets or baby-changing facilities in the Parkland.
  • Picnics are welcome throughout the Parkland and Garden. Please help protect our Parkland and to keep it unspoilt by leaving no trace and by taking litter home.
  • Please bring a named and reusable water bottle for your children.
  • The paths in the Garden are buggy friendly, but not in the Parkland.
  • For the comfort and safety of all visitors, ball games, bicycles, scooters and skateboards are welcome in the Parkland, but are not permitted in the Garden.

Borde Hill Summer Camps (1 or 3 days)

Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 July, and Tuesday 3 to Thursday 5 August

Join Woods For Learning for a 1 day or 3 day Summer Camp, held in Stonepits Wood in the Parkland. Activities include:

  • Building and learning to cook on an open fire
  • Learning to identify trees and plants and examine the shape, scent, sound and surface of various trees
  • Creating dens, shelters, bridges and sculptures
  • Collecting colours from nature
  • Making art from natural products and draw and engrave using natural materials
  • Creating a woodland assault course for a squirrel
  • Hunting for mini-beasts in trees, bushes, deadwood etc.
  • Creating a bug hotel
  • Developing the ability to observe silently – to look and hear what’s happening around them

Price: £100 per child (£35 for individual days). Advance booking required.

‘Wilderness Camp’ – Family Bushcraft Experience

Saturday 7th August, 9.30am-3pm

Switch off from technology and make the most of being outdoors this summer by joining ‘Wilderness Camp’, a bushcraft experience for the whole family held in the beautiful woodland at Borde Hill.

Try your hand at den building, lighting fires, cooking marshmallows on a stick and outdoor games.

Children’s Outdoor Theatre: Mr Stink (FULLY BOOKED)

Friday 13th August, 5.30-7.30pm

David Walliams’ best-seller Mr Stink is coming to Borde Hill Garden with an open air theatre production staged by Heartbreak Productions.

Packed with fun, humour and a heart-warming message, this touching tale provides the perfect family entertainment.

Pack a picnic, grab a chair and dress for the weather. Performed on the South Lawn against the backdrop of the Elizabethan Mansion House, Heartbreak Productions’ version of this popular children’s book is suitable for children aged 7+.

Tickets: Adults: £12, Children: £10 (3-16 years old), Family (2 Adults + 2 Children): £39

Includes entry to the Garden and Adventure Playground from 3.00pm (if arriving before 3.00pm, normal Garden admission charges apply). Access to the performance area from 5.00pm. Performance begins at 5.30pm and finishes at 7.30pm. There will be a 15 minute interval.
